The American Society of Interior Designs has chosen Emmy Knott Williams, ASID, NCIDQ, NC RID, as a member of its ASID College of Fellows.

This recognition, the highest bestowed by ASID, is awarded to less than 1 percent of its members. It celebrates those who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to advancing the design profession.

Founder of Winston-Salem, NC-based Interior Solutions Inc., a commercial interior design firm, Williams led legislative efforts on behalf of the interior design industry, and most notably she was part of a team that passed two bills in 2008 protecting interior designers from sales tax on services.

She also worked for seven years on legislation allowing registered interior designers to stamp and seal interior design drawings, which passed in 2021 as the first bill of its kind in the nation.

Williams’ notable and outstanding contributions to the profession have impacted interior designers across North Carolina, while also starting a wave of bills passing across the nation. By supporting this movement, she has mentored leaders on advocacy in other states.

“It is truly an extraordinary honor,” Williams said. “As a designer, my foremost goal is to deliver excellence in design while fulfilling our clients' objectives. I'm also deeply passionate about advancing the interior design profession to new heights. Being among the first interior designers in North Carolina to be registered to stamp and seal interior documents for construction is a milestone that positions Interior Solutions as a leader in our field.

"Our design philosophy is rooted in understanding our clients and transforming spaces into environments that enhance the experiences of those who inhabit them,” she continued. “This recognition is especially meaningful as it affirms the success of my passions. While honors are never the end goal, it is immensely gratifying to have one’s efforts recognized.”

ASID Fellowship is bestowed on professional members who have made notable and outstanding contributions to the profession, not only through their work, but through their demonstrated commitment to ASID and to the interior design Industry. ASID Fellows are nominated by their peers and selected by the ASID Council of Fellows for their significant contributions to the industry, leadership and dedicated service within the design community.

“ASID’s annual fellows induction celebrates top contributors to the design profession, elevating the people and their careers to inspire and guide other designers,” said Khoi Vo, ASID CEO. “From advocacy to education, these fellows represent a diverse community of thought leaders who have demonstrated their commitment to furthering ASID’s mission and positioning our community as a profession that profoundly impacts lives.”
