As much as we try to get excited for a change into the cooler seasons, we all know how much we still crave those warm summer days…especially if you’re a New Yorker. But it’s not only the radiant sunshine that we miss, it’s the sense of comfort these days bring us where we can relax, kick our feet up and enjoy the seemingly never ending day. Luckily Studio11 and their brand identity development component, Brand Society, is bringing the tropics to NYC this winter with Coconut Lounge at W New York Downtown.Studio 11 Design’s helped with the development of the concept Read about the space below!
A tropical takeover on the W Downtown hotel’s terrace, The Coconut Lounge,’ is designed to encapsulate a playful paradise. Drawing inspiration from the lively atmosphere of summer in the concrete jungle, the transformed terrace will feature a menu of large-format and themed cocktails served under a canopy of twinkling lights with skyline views through until December 2019.
Lending their knack for creating a layered narrative to the fifth floor terrace, Dallas-based firm Studio 11 Design was tapped to oversee the transformation. The designers’ intent was to create a vibrant space with discoveries around every corner and thoughtful seating in surprising settings. Cozy nooks for relaxing and taking in the views include a pair of oversized pink rattan thrones and moveable tree stump stools nestled behind leafy palms.
The focal point of ‘The Coconut Lounge’ is a 12-person cabana entangled in tropical flora. Hand-painted palms and a soft carpet in verdant shades of green create vacation vibes for all who wander in. After enjoying a cocktail at the bar, guests can explore and interact with whimsical decor elements dotted throughout the space. Gigantic flowers can be plucked for size-bending selfies and colossal banana leaves sprout from every corner for a game of hide-and-seek.
Throughout the space, fairy lights and pendant lighting masked in leafy orbs will cast a warm glow on gatherings, casual meet ups, and corporate events. Through the end of the year, the space will host a slew of musical performances, art openings, and fitness classes open to the public. ‘The Coconut Lounge’ will be bookable for exclusive use.
