The International Society of Furniture Designers (ISFD) recognized this year’s top home furnishings and textile designers when they announced the winners of the 26th annual Pinnacle Awards at a celebration held on Monday, Oct. 24 at High Point University’s Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center. This year’s theme, “Creating Tomorrow’s Homes,” focused on the styles, forms, finishes and functionality of the furnishings that will be part of our future lives.
“It is impressive how the Pinnacle Awards have grown in notability, creativity and number of entries over the past few years,” stated John Conrad, ISFD executive director. “Also, it is good to see that more companies are recognizing the value of professional product designers along with the added revenue that is generated from Pinnacle-awarded products. I want to thank all that have contributed to make this year’s Pinnacle Awards even more memorable. That list includes the designers and manufacturers who shared their extraordinary work with us and the judges who spent hours reviewing the entries to select the Pinnacle Awards finalists and winners.”
“In addition, I would like to recognize our wonderful co-Masters of Ceremonies, Libby Langdon, interior design icon, author, product designer and makeover television personality, who also inspired us with her thoughts as the keynote speaker along with Bill McLoughlin, editor in chief of Furniture Today,” Conrad continued. “Thanks to the many ambassadors that presented the Pinnacle Awards to the winners. And a special thanks goes out to the ISFD board whose support was instrumental in creating this event. Thank you all!”
To show the organization’s appreciation and as an acknowledgment for the groundwork that Conrad has laid over the past 10 years helping design students and product design professionals in the furniture industry, the ISFD Board of Directors announced that the Student Pinnacle Award is renamed the John Conrad Student Pinnacle Award. Steve Wilcox, ISFD executive board president and president of Furnishings Design Inc., stated, “John created the annual Student Pinnacle Award in 2014 to help prepare design students for a future in the furniture industry. He has shared his time, experience, knowledge and introduced these students to industry leaders to get their careers started.” To that Liz Moore, ISFD chairman of the board and furniture designer for Otto and Moore Inc., added, “John is one of the most passionate people I know, and he has truly made a mark on our organization. I’m lucky to have been by his side since I was a KCAD design student, and with his guidance, I have been exposed to many wonderful opportunities for my career, as well as nonprofit experiences.”
The Pinnacle Awards are the furniture industry’s highest honor recognizing the top professional and student furniture designers who envision and create the designs that ultimately become some of the most sought-after home furnishings items around the world. Their works are produced and marketed by companies large and small, but with a common denominator — to proudly illustrate that artistry, craft, and innovation are important and quite desirable to the consumer marketplace.
