2016 saw tons of warm metals, Scandinavian flair, boho looks and more. What does this new year have in store for home decor?

1) Texture: Velvet, rattan, chunky textiles, wallpaper — mixing different materials in a room adds a multidimensional, inviting look. From luxurious to cozy to glamorous, there's something for everyone.

2) Green: Green has been on the uptick for some time now, but its prominence was set in stone after Pantone named Greenery — a bright, yellowish shade — its 2017 Color of the Year. Green is usable and versatile in home decor, and brings feelings of nature indoors.

3) Modern Rustic: A swing toward more casual home decor has led the way for Modern Rustic style, which makes contemporary style cozier and more inviting with rustic touches. Textures, like wood and brick and chunky textiles, fuse with streamlined silhouettes that are undoubtedly modern for a style that’s polished but still warm. This type of decor can easily swing more contemporary or more rustic depending on the users’ preferences, and another bonus? Its gender neutrality works great for couples who both want their tastes to feel represented at home.

4) Tailored Pieces: Sometimes less is more, and in 2017, less adornment and fuss will reign supreme. Contemporary-styled products with a masculine lean will make bold statements with materials (like creamy leather and burled wood) and shapes (think geometric, positive/negative space). The feminine looks that have emerged in the last few years will also start to streamline.

5) Geometrics: Following the trend above, bold geometric shapes, like facets and diamonds, have been all over recent market introductions — on mirrors, rugs, sideboards, headboards, you name it. These patterns will remain strong in 2017.
