Overlooking a greenbelt, the views of nature inspired this Audrey Scheck bedroom design.

Austin, TX based design Audrey Scheck of Audrey Scheck Design works on both residential and commercial projects nationally. Her approach merges new and vintage styles, which is a major design theme taking over homes lately. Home Accents Today sat down with her to talk about one of her latest bedroom designs and gain insight into what keeps her coming back to retailers to shop.
Scheck: This primary bedroom overlooks the family’s backyard which backs up to a greenbelt. Given the view, we drew from nature when creating the color palette for this space. The green linen curtains help guide the eye seamlessly from the windows to the greenery outside.
Scheck: Saturated earth tones are definitely having a moment right now. We are loving deep maroons, olive greens, navy and dusty pinks.
Scheck: For furniture, we love Burke Decor, Serena & Lily, & Lulu & Georgia. For custom furniture in fun colors (like the chaise lounge chair in this room), we frequent Shoppe Amber Interiors out of Los Angeles. For bedding and pillows, we love Vintage Rug Shop and Collectiv Co. Our go-to artist for large or small pieces is Aileen Fitzgerald who is based in Austin, TX. When it comes to accent pieces, we frequent local antique malls and flea markets to curate items that speak to us.
Scheck: Regardless of the room, we always try to infuse spaces with colors that will help break-up the neutral tones throughout the home. Most of our clients have light hardwood floors and white walls, so we try to incorporate colorful furniture and accents that can help bring their spaces to life. We’re based in Texas, and we’ve had several clients ask us to incorporate taxidermy into their primary bedroom designs. It actually ended-up being so much fun. We love a good challenge around here!
Scheck: More multifunctional features/double-duty spaces–coffee bars, etc., things like that. We are receiving more and more requests for comfortable sitting areas in bedrooms. Given how many of us are working from home, it makes sense that there is an increased need for cozy lounge areas around the house!
Scheck: We gravitate toward retailers who have quality products that will last many, many years. I love the idea of holding onto meaningful pieces and passing them down between generations. To that point, we also love retailers who have a selection that seems both current AND timeless. We try to steer clear of anything too trendy.
Scheck: My personal bedroom style is a space that’s warm, layered and inviting. Mixing new and vintage is a MUST for me, and I have several pieces in my own personal home that were passed down to me from my grandmother. In addition to wearing her wedding ring as my own now, I also have several of her vintage canisters in our kitchen. She was a home economics teacher who loved to cook, and I have no doubt that she’d love being included in our kitchen!
