Spectra Home is entering the motion and home entertainment category for the first time this week following the acquisition of RowOne by parent company Shayne Global Holdings. At High Point Market, Spectra Home will show off RowOne’s product capabilities in a dedicated theater room built inside the company’s thoroughly revamped Design District showroom at 200 N. Hamilton (entrance on Fred Alexander Place).

Founded by Robert Cribbs—who joined Spectra Home as President earlier this year—Row One is known as a home theater room specialist with a reputation for high quality, luxurious seating comfort, and innovative, technology-driven designs. While the company has heretofore focused specifically on dedicated AV home theater rooms, the product offering is expanding to encompass motion silhouettes for the family room as well.

“Spectra Home and RowOne are very complementary in terms of product offerings,” Cribbs says, noting that RowOne’s consumer electronics constituency will now benefit from access to Spectra Home’s sophisticated upholstered furniture styles, while furniture retailers will appreciate the addition of motion to Spectra Home’s line-up, along with deeper insights into what makes consumers tick in the home theater category.

“Buyers and designers in High Point can expect to see new power motion silhouettes that more closely resemble stationary goods,” Cribbs relates, describing the designs as “motion without the cupholders. Many consumers now are drawn to a mix of deep-seated lifestyle looks that accommodate the entire family and the dog, and they don’t [want] the family room to look like a dedicated home theater with a line of chairs. You can do that easily with our products, making the merger of our manufacturing and design capabilities with an upholstered furniture powerhouse like Spectra Home particularly right for the times.”

Indeed, three of four power motion sofas that will take centerstage in the showroom this week are covered in 100 percent top-grain leather, and one is being shown in a best-selling Spectra Home upholstery fabric called Zorro Fog. While the styles are akin to stationary goods with contemporary streamlined looks, two designs offer power headrests in addition to near-the-wall power recline and all include built-in USB ports. Switches on the side of the seats are easily accessible, but out of sight.

“These are uniquely styled, high-quality designs featuring Leggett & Platt mechanisms and Oaken motors, made to stand apart from the majority of motion goods on the market today,” he says. “RowOne has always been a bit unusual in the motion business because we refuse to compromise on quality, as evidenced by a return allowance last year of less than one percent. We’re not the cheapest, but shoppers recognize the value we represent and dealers can count on the goods staying sold.”
