The Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) is among the entities named to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) 10th Annual Leadership Awards.
The SFC met criteria as a U.S. based nonprofit organization focused on goals shared by the FSC, including forest conservation, the fight against climate change, and wildlife protection.
Recognized for the success of its annual Wood Furniture Scorecard initiative, which the SFC launched in partnership with the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) in 2018, the scorecard identifies retailers with wood sourcing policies that actively promote and support sustainable practices.
For its 2020 Wood Furniture Scorecard edition, which was published last month, the SFC expanded the initiative to include small and medium-size retail stores contributing to increased consumer demand for FSC-certified wood furniture, the world’s most trusted forest certification system.
“We’re extremely proud of this recognition from the FSC,” says SFC Executive Director Susan Inglis. “FSC wood certification plays a critical role that is good for business as well as for the environment, and I look forward to continuing to work with their organization.”
Retailers of wood furniture can learn more about why responsible wood sourcing matters and why responsible wood sourcing is good for business by visiting the SFC website.
