Riverside Furniture, which produces such casegoods as the Sophie Bedroom, will open a new distribution center in North Carolina.

Leading casegoods resource Riverside Furniture has invested $5.4 million to purchase and renovate a 300,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center in Caswell County, NC, positioning the company to reduce shipment lead times to retailers in the Eastern U.S. to approximately one week from receipt of order, the company announced.

Once the North Carolina warehouse and distribution center is fully operational in May of 2021, “Riverside will have a total domestic warehousing capacity of over 800,000 square feet, including our 500,000-square-foot Ft. Smith warehouse that primarily serves the Midwest and Western U.S.,” said Fred Henjes, Chief Executive Officer and President of Riverside. “The new NC distribution center will allow us to inventory our entire product line, including best sellers, across all categories — bedroom, dining room, home office, home entertainment and occasional furniture. Our goal is to improve the customer experience and reduce shipment lead times to retailers in the Eastern U.S. to approximately one week from receipt of order,” Henjes said. “We expect that service through the new warehouse will enable retail partners to realize greater profitability through reduced freight and inventory costs and increased sales velocity,” he added.

Because the distribution center is situated on 50 acres of land, “The campus will give us the ability to expand as customer needs dictate,” Henjes said.

The North Carolina facility is Riverside’s second major investment in North Carolina recently. The company is currently renovating the historic YMCA on Main Street in High Point to create a state-of-the-art showroom and product development center that will be utilized year-round. “Riverside’s investment in North Carolina, including both the 70,000-square-foot High Point showroom and the Caswell County distribution center, is a combined $15 million, which is a reflection of our growth as a company and the expansion of service to our customer base,” Henjes said.
He added that Riverside is especially excited that “the opening of both our High Point showroom and the Caswell County distribution center in Spring 2021 will coincide with the celebration of Riverside’s 75th Anniversary.”
