NYCxDESIGN is proud to present IMPACTxDESIGN, a new design competition in partnership with Caesarstone to showcase how design can enhance public space and foster engagement. Selected in collaboration with the Design Trust for Public Space, Dumbo Brooklyn and Downtown Manhattan, two historic neighborhoods and city-centers for the arts and commerce, have been identified as locations for design installations that will help bring people together and connect starting this fall. The program will offer two winning designers the chance to make their mark on the city’s landscape and gain invaluable exposure.

“Public space is one of New York’s most important assets. How we design, imagine, and create these areas will impact New Yorkers for generations. That’s why the Design Trust for Public Space is so excited to partner with our long-time friends at NYCxDESIGN to launch IMPACTxDESIGN,” notes Matthew Clarke, Executive Director, Design Trust for Public Space. “This partnership is just beginning and we’re looking forward to future projects with NYCxDESIGN to bring great public design to more communities across the five boroughs.”

Designers are invited to submit proposals that introduce new opportunities for public gathering, leveraging Caesarstone’s premium quartz as the primary material resource in their design. A place to meet your neighbors, a spot to slow down, an area to commonly interact – the partners are looking for creative concepts around an installation or set of products that can be integrated into existing spaces, transforming them into ideal places for congregation for years to come. The jury will aim to showcase designers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives for the opportunity to present their ideas on a global stage.

In May, two designers will be announced and awarded $10,000 each. The designers will work closely with NYCxDESIGN, Caesarstone, the Design Trust for Public Space, Dumbo Improvement District, and Downtown Alliance to bring the winning designs to life over the course of five months. The installations will be unveiled this fall coinciding with several city-wide design activations and happenings that culminate with the annual NYCxDESIGN Festival scheduled for November 11-18.

“With our design passion and expertise, Caesarstone is honored to partner with NYCxDESIGN to help amplify the local talent and businesses through the IMPACTxDESIGN program,” says Elizabeth Margles, Vice President Marketing, Caesarstone North America. “We are confident the program participants will create inspiring spaces with our beautiful and durable materials that will allow people to enjoy their surroundings and shared experiences.”

NYCxDESIGN will also extend significant visibility to the winning designers through a documentary-style video series following the project from inception to completion. In addition, the winners will receive: recognition in a media announcement announcing the IMPACTxDESIGN winners; an article about IMPACTxDESIGN in the October 2021 edition of NYCxDESIGN: The Magazine; a virtual conversation highlighting the IMPACTxDESIGN winners; and a feature on the final projects on the IMPACTxDESIGN landing page on nycxdesign.org. NYCxDESIGN will also promote the winning designs across its social media profiles.

IMPACTxDESIGN proposals will be accepted through April 8.
