The Acoustic Pendant by Maxim Lighting has been named Best Pendant in the Lighting category of the 2020 LIT Lighting Design Awards. Voted on by a panel composed of esteemed members of academia, press, entrepreneurs and lauded lighting design professionals, the Acoustic was selected for both its innovative use of materials and its thoughtful application to a classic form.
The LIT Awards were created to recognize talent in the international lighting design community. Organizers of the award take submissions from product designers and lighting manufacturers all across the globe. “We believe that lighting is both an art and a science, and it is one of the most important elements of design." Judges base winners off of innovation, aesthetics, and function. The Acoustic collection won based on excelling in all areas of this criteria.
The Acoustic Pendant is distinguishably noteworthy for its use of felt material to construct a stylish, oversized truncated cone shade. Not only does this take advantage of a warm and homespun textile feel, it also delivers a sound absorbing quality reducing the ambient noise in the environment where they are hung. All design elements were taken into consideration, as noted by an opal glass globe housed inside the shade to diffuse the light evenly within the shade as well as various sizes of rings that connect to a metal stems that suspend the shade. Available in a classic Black felt with Polished Nickel hardware or transitional Grey felt with Satin Nickel hardware, this collection offers a new approach to a mainstay in design.
