Upon first look at [the client’s] home office, her fashion background is evident. She has worked at Fossil, followed by Neiman Marcus, and now Google. I love that we were able to pull through her love of fashion in her office, perhaps the only room in the house that she can keep to herself. After designing many houses for this client over the past decade, I know she gravitated towards all neutral, clean designs. However, with her office, she felt a punch of color in small doses could go a long way in making this workspace feel inspiring and fun. We used a punchy pink to achieve this. Once the art was selected, we used velvet pink pillows to pull in the splash found in the artwork. This pink accent color set the office apart from the rest of the home and gives it a confident feminine feel.
The desk chair was very important to her as comfort was top priority. We were able to source a comfortable, high-backed chair that still looked chic with its navy velvet upholstery (which ties in color from the window treatment tape and the rug.)
We wanted to respect our client’s love of clean, neutral interiors, but also strategically work in a pattern that wouldn’t feel too overwhelming. To do this, we added a bold striped tape to her otherwise solid window treatments. To ground the room, we also created a custom chic, colorful rug that has graphic navy striped with bold punches of hot pink. It was the perfect solution to tie in the colors. I love how this office packs a punch while keeping a subtle wall paint color. It proves that you can still make a statement with neutral walls. We let the fabrics and soft furnishings do the talking.
