Megan Molten has designed a stunning sitting area.

1. With this being the parlor of the home, the more formal sitting room where you may have drinks with friends, I knew I wanted it to be a little moody yet still have the coastal touches throughout. The velvet sofa with the palm pillows mixed with rattan chairs is a fun combo that accomplishes just that. The decor on the built-ins includes a lot of coastal elements such as driftwood and mini prints from several local artists while including some more collected items like frames and vases.

2. The obvious paint choice here would have been a deep navy, and I knew I didn’t want to do that. With wallpaper in the two adjoining rooms, I wanted it to be cohesive with those yet have this room feel special and stand out on its own. I used the wallpapers and a paint deck as my guide, and Normandy blue is the color I chose. I knew painting everything including the ceiling and trim was really going to be a moment, so we just went for it!

3. For the lighting in this space I wanted it to be really modern to play off the older elements of the historic home, such as the original fireplace. The marble lamps give a touch of luxe while the armed chandelier really pops off the blue ceiling and sprawls throughout the space.
