June Lightovation to Feature New Speaker Series on Smart Home and Connected Lighting Technology

Dallas Market Center and the American Lighting Assn. (ALA) announced the educational programming for Lightovation in June, which will include a new speaker series focused on connected lighting and smart home technology.

The inaugural Lightovation Speaker Series: Connected/Smart Home will take place on June 22 and will be hosted in the Light + Technology showroom (TM 4804). The series will cover new technologies and opportunities for lighting showrooms to capitalize on connected lighting and the smart home.

The speaker series will include these sessions:

Thursday, June 22
10-11 a.m. Your Customer Is Ready for the Smart Home
Lori Arnold, President and owner, Apex, Realtors

Coldwell Banker and CNET’s groundbreaking consumer survey on smart home adoption and interest paints an encouraging picture of opportunity as lighting options in this space continue to grow. Lori Arnold, Coldwell Banker Chairman Circle member and President and owner of Apex, Realtors will share her expertise on who is buying smart home products, how they are controlling them and the most valued benefits of these technologies. You’ll also learn what incentivizes customers to purchase smart home products and how much they are willing to spend on them.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming commonplace in the home, connecting a variety of everyday devices, including lighting. Mobile devices further shape and transform the way consumers interact with and experience lighting by enabling an unprecedented level of convenience, control and personalization. In this session, CEO and founder of LumiFi Beatrice Witzgall will share insights on the benefits and cost efficiencies of smart and connected lighting in the home. She will also address security considerations and other pitfalls in this exciting new lighting landscape.

This moderated panel discussion will provide guidelines for effective collaboration between lighting, design/build industry and residential technology professionals, focusing on “how-to’s” for incorporating emerging lighting trends into smart home solutions for customers. A team of panelists representing ALA, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) will exchange ideas and suggestions for putting today’s coolest lighting and technology solutions into place.

Following the panel discussion, this social event will provide a networking opportunity to facilitate connections between professionals in related industries. Enjoy drinks and light hors d’oeuvres as you meet other professionals with interest in emerging technologies.

ALA will also host two sessions on June 21 and June 23 covering research about how consumers shop for lighting and lighting for aging and low vision populations. The sessions will be held in the ALA Seminar Center (WTC 345) and cost $49 for ALA members for $49 and $79 for non-members. 

All educational sessions will earn attendees accreditation toward ALA Certified Lighting Consultant status.
