Atlanta is home base for Currey & Company, where it will be launching its flagship showroom. The new 10,000+  square foot Americasmart showroom, which was scheduled to open in January 2021 and was delayed due to  Covid-19, will open in July, with a ribbon cutting on July 16. Owner Brownlee Currey shares: “Our industry is about people and products; our new  flagship showroom was built with this in mind.”

The new space took 15 months to complete, from architectural drawings to the actual finished showroom. The buildout took longer than planned due to Covid-19 and the resulting challenge to secure materials, requiring the company to be flexible to accommodate the timeline and the design of the showroom. Visual elements in the space are new to the company’s showroom aesthetic, featuring with white floors, walls high ceilings, designed to create a lighter and brighter experience for customers and offering an open approach to product displays. Walls and counters are movable and will allow for more flexible displays and for design events.

The most dramatic element in the newly designed space is an oval structure called the  Ellipse that appears to float in the center of the showroom. The Ellipse will provide an intimate gallery space to host exhibitions and events such as a pop-up shops, antiques and one-of-a-kind galleries or new designer collections.

The showroom is open year-round, Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, and is located in AmericasMart, Building 1, Lobby 3, on the main level where an AmericasMart entry pass is not required.

Bunny Williams Collection Expanded

In addition to the new showroom, Currey is adding to its Bunny Williams collection, which debuted in 2017. “Light fixtures should never be taken for granted. When you look at them you should always  be enamored of the detail and design,” says Williams. Six new designs will be featured in the company’s new Atlanta showroom during summer market, July 13-19.

Fine craftsmanship and the controlled imperfections that are the mark of handmade products are evident in the latest introductions. Bunny shares, “I’m excited for this new, beautiful collection of lighting. It is a mix of fanciful and elegantly restrained forms suitable for a range of  lighting purposes. I’m particularly fond of the chandeliers which easily add glamour to a room.”

The Bunny Williams additions consist of three wall sconces, two chandeliers and a pendant — all classically designed, a hallmark of Williams’ aesthetic. On her collaboration over the years with Currey & Company, she states: “I long to have meetings with the Currey design team! They are not only stimulating — you learn so much about production; they are true southern ladies and gentlemen. The best, not to mention they serve the best drinks, host the best parties, and most of all have the greatest humor and warmth. What a team and I am so fortunate to be a tiny part of the Currey family.”

One of the most distinctive designs of the new additions is the Bailey Chandelier. It is a large chandelier with a two-tone finish: contemporary gold leaf on the interior and French black on the exterior. Ambient light radiates between the ribbons of wrought iron in a warm glow due to the gold interior. The black chandelier has nine lights. The subtle brush strokes on the exterior show the touch of the human hand.
