The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has received Platinum LEED and WELL Certification for its Washington, D.C. headquarters, making it the first space in the world to achieve both certifications.

The 8,500 square-foot office gained LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in January and received WELL certification from the International WELL Building Institute on June 9. Perkins+Will designed the office with sustainability as a central philosophy.

“We began this project with a clear goal of showcasing the many ways design can positively affect the health and well-being of employees while boosting resource efficiency,” ASID CEO Randy Fiser said. “Becoming WELL Certified Platinum and LEED Certified Platinum is the product of revolutionary visioning from the project designer Perkins+Will, commitment from our construction partners and consultants and complete buy-in from ASID staff.”

The ASID office features human-centric design elements including biophilic design strategies, sound masking systems, rigorous water quality standards and a circadian lighting system. Along with these design components, ASID promotes the health of employees by providing fresh fruit and vegetables, sit/stand desks and a wellness room for mental breaks.
