Fremont Street is as old as Las Vegas itself. It was the first paved road, and it had the first traffic light. When the state of Nevada began handing out gambling licenses, the first one in Las Vegas went to a casino on Fremont Street. In its heyday before the Las Vegas Strip became the Strip, Fremont Street dazzled and delighted with its bright, flashing neon signs and many casinos.
Though the Las Vegas Strip may get most of the attention today, Fremont Street deserves recognition. In 2002, the city began renovating the street as well as other surrounding streets to create the Fremont East Entertainment District, now home to numerous theaters, clubs and restaurants.
While you've probably explored the Strip, you haven't really seen Las Vegas until you head to Fremont Street — which is conveniently located close the Word Market Center. When you've finished your day at Las Vegas Market, check out these four restaurants on Fremont Street.
Hugo's Cellar
It's hard to miss the Four Queens Casino. Its bright, gold lights will practically blind you from the outside, but the true gem of the casino is located inside — Hugo's Cellar.
A Las Vegas staple, this sophisticated restaurant looks nothing like its flashy outside. With heavy wood throughout and brick walls, Hugo's Cellar recommends reservations, so it's best to call ahead. Steak and seafood are on the menu, and the restaurant also offers table-side salads with all entrees.
Andiamo Steakhouse
Looking for the best steak in town? How about one for two?
Located inside the D Las Vegas hotel on Fremont Street, Andiamo Steakhouse prides itself on delivering the best of American Prime and Italian cuisine. Its Andiamo tomahawk steak is a 32-ounce rib-eye steak that could easily feed two people, but steak isn't the only thing on the menu. Andiamo Steakhouse makes all pasta from scratch and uses only the freshest vegetables and seafood available. The restaurant also works with top butchers to find the best cuts of beef, veal and chicken for its diners.
Freedom Beat
Ready for something that's not a steakhouse? You'll have to venture a little off Fremont Street, but for Freedom Beat, it's totally worth it.
Owned and operated by Chef Scott Commings, the season 12 winner of Hell’s Kitchen, Freedom Beat is open 24 hours a day — perfect for late-night market goers — and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner options all day. The menu features cuisine from all over the country from jambalaya to Wisconsin cheese curds to brisket. Freedom Beat also brings in a number of great musical acts, so if you want to hear live music while you eat, this is the place to be.
California Noodle House
Inside the California Hotel and Casino just a block and a half off Fremont Street, California Noodle House offers an array of Asian dishes from Japan, China, Vietnam and Thailand.
Open every night for dinner, this restaurant serves up more than just noodle dishes. Inside, you'll find a great selection of ribs, shrimp and even street tacos. When you're finished eating, head over to the casino for a little gambling before heading back to your hotel.
